If you have tried multiple acne products without much consistency or success, the issue may not be the products themselves; it may be knowing which ones to use, when to use them, and how they work together. The products in our acne collection are designed as a system, each one playing a specific role in a daily or weekly routine.
This guide walks you through how to use our herbal acne products together for the most consistent results.
Your Daily Routine
Step 1: Cleanse Once or Twice Daily
Honeysuckle Cleanser (Jin Yin Hua Wash)
Begin and end your day with the Honeysuckle Cleanser. This gentle herbal face wash is formulated with Jin Yin Hua (Honeysuckle), an herb with a long history of use in TCM for its heat-clearing properties. Use it once in the morning and once at night as the foundation of your routine. It removes excess oil, impurities, and any products applied overnight without stripping or drying the skin.
Step 2: Overnight Targeted Application
Pure & Clear Cream (Dian Dao Shui Gao)
After cleansing at night, apply Pure & Clear Cream directly to individual blemishes and leave it on until morning. This concentrated herbal cream is formulated from ingredients known in TCM to clear heat and resolve toxin, and is designed to be left on the skin overnight so the herbs can work undisturbed. Wash it off in the morning with your Honeysuckle Cleanser.
Step 3: Morning Moisture (If Needed)
Pure & Clear Cream #2 (Ji Xue Cao Shui Gao)
After your morning cleanse, if your skin feels dry or tight, apply Pure & Clear Cream #2 as a lightweight moisturizer. This formula is intentionally non-occlusive: it provides enough moisture to keep the skin comfortable without being heavy or pore-blocking. Not everyone will need this step; if your skin tends to be oily, you may find you can skip it on most days.
Step 4: Daytime Direct Application to Blemishes
Pure & Clear Gel (Fei Zi Shui)
Throughout the day, you can apply Pure & Clear Gel directly to individual blemishes as needed. Unlike the overnight cream, this gel is clear and lightweight once absorbed, making it suitable for use during the day without affecting the appearance of the skin. Dab a small amount directly onto blemishes and allow to dry fully.
Your Weekly Routine
2 to 3 Times Per Week: The Mask
Cleanse & Clear Mask (Xiao Cuo Mian Mo)
Use the Cleanse & Clear Mask two to three times per week, on freshly cleansed skin. Apply an even layer, leave on for 15 to 20 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with the Honeysuckle Cleanser. This mask is formulated with herbs used in TCM to gently clear heat and support the skin's natural detoxification process. It is not a harsh exfoliant; think of it as a periodic reset for congested or dull skin prone to breakouts.
For Reactive or Redness-Prone Skin
Balancing Cream (Jiu Zha Shui Gao)
If your skin tends toward reactivity, redness, or oiliness alongside breakouts, the Balancing Cream may be a useful addition to your routine. It is formulated from herbs used in TCM to clear damp-heat and calm reactive skin, and is particularly suited to those whose breakouts are accompanied by visible redness or a tendency toward oiliness in the affected areas.
For Pigment Changes After Breakouts Resolve
Skin Brightening Cream (Qu Ban Shui Gao) and Cleanse & Clear Mask (Xiao Cuo Mian Mo)
Breakouts can sometimes leave behind pigment changes in the skin, including areas of darkening or uneven tone after a blemish has healed. Both the Skin Brightening Cream and the Cleanse & Clear Mask are formulated with herbs used in TCM to support more even skin tone. The Skin Brightening Cream can be incorporated into your daily routine once blemishes have resolved, and the mask's periodic use may also support a more even-looking complexion over time. These products may also be helpful for those dealing with melasma or other pigmentation concerns.
A Note on Expectations
Herbal skincare works differently from conventional acne treatments. Most pharmaceutical acne products work quickly and aggressively; herbal topicals work more gradually, supporting the skin's own processes rather than overriding them. This means consistency matters more than intensity. Using fewer products consistently tends to produce better results than rotating through many products erratically.
If your acne is moderate to severe, is affecting your confidence or quality of life, or has not responded to topical care alone, we encourage you to seek support from a qualified practitioner. Internal herbal medicine, dietary guidance, and acupuncture can all play an important role in addressing acne from the inside out: something topicals alone cannot do.
